April Showers bring May Flowers

Millimeters and centimeters are used to measure rainfall because they refer to the amount of rainfall per square meter. It's not actually the amount of water that is recorded, but rather the height to which the water would stand if all of the water stood in one place.


Kindergarten - 3 raindrops landed on my toes, 8 raindrops landed on my nose. How many raindrops landed on me?



Grade One - My plant needs18 raindrops to grow each day. Today my plant only had 3 raindrops. How many more raindrops does my plant need today?



Grade Two - My garden needs to be covered by 3cm of water each day. How many cm of water is that in one week?



Grade Three - The biggest raindrops on Earth were recorded in Brazil and the Marshall Islands in 2004— some of them were as huge as 10 mm. If you put 27 of the biggest raindrops together how many millimeters would it be?


Grade Four - A raindrop hitting a lake makes a circular ripple. 18 raindrops made 13 ripples. How many ripples altogether??


Grade Five - The Highest rainfall (in one day) in Calgary was 95.3 millimeters (July, 1927) and the highest Rainfall on record (in one day) was 1825 mm in the Indian Ocean in 1966. How much more rainfall fell in the Indian Ocean?


Grade Six - There is 11619 mm of rainfall in Cherrapunji India, every year. Calgary has an average of 326.4 mm rainfall every year. How much more rain does Cherrapunji India experience?
