Happy Friday, Citizens of Nellie!

WEEK IN REVIEW

  • Last Saturday, we celebrated four Nellie students at the Calgary Youth Science Fair Society (CYSFS) which took place at the Olympic Oval. The CYSFS has been in place since 1962 and is a 100% volunteer run charitable society whose purpose is to organize and host the Calgary Youth Science Fair each year in early to mid April.  The event attracts around 700 projects and almost 1,000 students in grades 5-12 from over 100 schools each year.  Congratulations to Ramona & Autumn (Silver), Meenakshi (Silver) and Aimee (bronze). A big thank you to Ms. Schmitz for organizing and running the science fair club this year, and accompanying our Nellie students with Ms. Tanis at the event.
  • Wednesday was the 100th day of School for our Kindergarten students. Our Kindergarten classes  celebrated  fun, hands-on learning experiences! This special day supports key outcomes through play-based learning. Students explored early math concepts by counting and grouping to 100, creating a crown of collection of 10 strips such as 10 shapes, 10 emotions, 10 pictures, or 10 punchouts. Students built language skills by sharing their ideas and creations, and practiced teamwork through collaborative activities. The day was a joyful way to celebrate learning, creativity, and community.

IMPORTANT NELLIE AGM PARENT COUNCIL MEETING: 6:30pm, Wed. May 20

  • Have your voice heard, provide input, get involved! Mark your calendar- Our Nellie McClung School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Wednesday May 20. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Elementary School Council is an important opportunity for parents and guardians to stay informed, share their perspectives, and play an active role in shaping the school community for the following year. Attending the AGM allows families to learn about council initiatives, provide input on key decisions, and help strengthen the partnership between home and school.
