Nellie in the Know – August 22, 2024
Happy Back to School Citizens of Nellie,
Welcome or welcome back to the most amazing school ever. We miss you at Nellie. As you can see from the photos in the weekly pics page the school is clean but bare and it needs you all to come back soon. I hope this message finds you well and that you’ve had a chance to enjoy a refreshing and sunny summer break. I trust you’ve found plenty of time for relaxation, fun, and making wonderful memories with your loved ones during this fantastic summer.
My summer flew by quickly but was filled with joy and relaxation. July began with a bit of rain, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. My wife and children (minus Kindra-Lee who is still in Europe), my parents, Sandy’s mom, and I headed to the trailer at Glennifer Lake. The first week was wet, but the second week turned into a glorious stretch of sunshine. We spent many enjoyable hours on the boat, playing with the kids, and catching up with friends. We also put effort into fixing up the trailer, which turned out to be a rewarding project.
As you may know, I direct a play each summer. This year I had the pleasure to direct a fun little musical called the Stone of Zalgor. With Jane Dennison at the helm of the music, a number of current and former Nellie students and parents connected with other talented young people and built sets, made costumes, learned choreography, mastered songs and brought this production to life. It was so much fun.
With the show behind me, I took some time to focus on my back and along with a surgeon; we now have a plan for healing. I am so excited that I have a surgery date and will let you know more when we get closer to the date.
The rest of the summer, we spent time celebrating kids and parent’s birthdays, playing at the lake and yes doing the needed yard and housework. We had lots of company this summer and were blessed to spend time rekindling relationships.
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I am excited to welcome back our staff, students and families. This will be a fantastic year as we rededicate ourselves to improving the learning experience for all students.
School starts Thursday, August 29th. Teachers will be calling parents and students on August 26-28 to welcome you to their classrooms and tell you where you will meet them on the school field on Thursday.
We are going to have a fantastic year. Nellie is blessed with hard working and dedicated students, staff and families who come together to build the strongest possible learning environment for students. When we all work together the Citizens of Nellie Soar together.
Have a great year. If you ever have any questions or concerns please call me on my cell phone at 587-777-6331.
