Happy Friday Citizens of Nellie,

It was an exciting last week of school- spirit days, caroling in the gym, our food bank dominoes and our trip to watch Charlotte's Web at Alberta Theatre Projects. See photos in the Nellie Weekly Pics link at the bottom of this message.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Food bank dominoes- In the second week of Nellie's Calgary Food Bank drive, our focus item was Kraft Dinners. Nearly 700 packages were collected! We set them up like dominoes in the gym to watch them topple and celebrate our spirit of giving at Nellie. Using the boxes of macaroni and cheese as dominoes, we created an arrangement that began near the stage and covered more than half of the gym floor. Student Fia, from Ms. Child's class (as that class won the previous week's challenge to bring in the most baby formula) was selected to kick off this spectacle. With a countdown by a gathering of classmates and teachers Wednesday afternoon, Fia put pressure on the first box and let gravity do the rest, with only a few stubborn boxes refusing to fall over.

The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for people facing crisis. As the city’s main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank they have the capacity to serve families, individuals and organizations to fight hunger. They receive almost no government funding and instead we are by community for community, relying on the generous support of people like you. Great Work Nellie!
