Happy Friday, Nellie Citizens!

Learning Continues Right to the Last Day.  As we approach the final week of the school year, contrary to what some of us may have experienced in our own schooling, CBE classrooms remain active places of meaningful learning during the last week. While there may be moments of celebration, the focus continues to be on consolidating skills, reflecting on growth, and engaging in purposeful activities connected to curriculum outcomes. Students are finishing strong—demonstrating perseverance, responsibility, and pride in their learning right up to the final day.

WEEK IN REVIEW

  • This past week, Nellie students had the exciting opportunity to use our school bouldering wall during Physical Education classes. Ask your student about some of the games they played on the bouldering wall, like Shark Attack; Rock, Paper, Scissors; Minefield; Heist; or Mission Impossible. The wall provided a fun and engaging way for students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and develop important movement skills in a safe and supportive environment. This learning connects directly to the Alberta Physical Education and Wellness curriculum outcomes, particularly in the areas of developing fundamental movement skills, including climbing, balancing, and spatial awareness; participating safely and confidently in a variety of physical activities; and demonstrating perseverance, self-regulation, and respect for others. It has been wonderful to see students step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and experience success at their own level. We are proud of their effort, courage, and enthusiasm!
  • On Wednesday our Kindergarten students enjoyed an exciting and hands-on field trip to Granary Road, where learning truly came to life! Through interactive play and exploration in a natural outdoor environment, students engaged with key outcomes from the Alberta Kindergarten Program, including developing curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder about the world around them. The experience supported important areas of learning such as exploring the environment and community, building problem-solving skills through play structures, and fostering social responsibility and collaboration with peers. It was a joyful day filled with discovery, imagination, and meaningful connections to real-world learning.
  • Also on Wednesday, our Grade 4 students enjoyed an engaging field trip to Heritage Park, where they deepened their understanding of Alberta’s history and aligned their learning with key Social Studies curriculum outcomes. Through hands-on experiences with historical buildings, artifacts, and role-playing activities, students developed an understanding of how communities changed over time and how geography, culture, and innovation influenced daily life. Students will continue this learning back at school by tracking important dates and experiences on a collaboratively created Canadian history timeline. Upon their return, students will further extend their thinking by writing a persuasive letter promoting Heritage Park as a valuable place to learn about Canada’s rich history.
  • Our Grade 5 students enjoyed an engaging cycling field trip today, putting their learning into action beyond the classroom. This experience supported the Alberta Grade 5 Physical Education and Wellness curriculum by promoting active living, bike safety awareness, and personal responsibility, while also connecting to Science and Social Studies outcomes through exploration of their local environment. We are proud of how students demonstrated teamwork, perseverance, and respect throughout this meaningful, real-world learning opportunity.
