Happy Friday Citizens of Nellie!
Next Year School Bus Transportation
Currently, the CBE Transportation system has identified 46 bus-eligible Nellie McClung students for the 2025/26 school year. CBE Transportation has received only 2 registration forms to date. Families who wish to access transportation next year to register need to do so by the June 22nd deadline to be included in our transportation planning. Registrations received after the deadline are not guaranteed to have a bus stop assigned to them for the first day of school and may have a 6-8 week wait before they are assigned to a bus stop. Confirmed routes are posted in August. Eligibility: General transportation (big yellow school bus) is available to students who: Attend their designated school, and Live beyond the school walk zone

The Week in Review:
This week Grade 6 students finished writing the last of the Government of Alberta Provincial Achievement Tests. Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are administered annually to all Alberta students in grades 6 and 9. These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location. PATs help:
-determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
-report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
-assist schools, authorities and the province in monitoring and improving student learning
There are some photos of their focus and rigor happening while writing these, in this week's Nellie Weekly Pics link at the bottom of this email.
On Tuesday, Kindergartens took a field trip to Butterfield Acres for a Farmyard visit with all the traditional Spring Babies! You’ll want to Students got right in there to try all the things you’d do if you lived on a farm. They visit with all the wonderful spring farm animal babies.. lambs, goats piglets, how ’bout the bunnies and chicks? There was even a big TRACTOR RIDE pulled by “Old Blue”, the tractor and GOAT MILKING LESSONS with the farmer! See the fun and adorable photos in the Nellie Weekly pics!
This was Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary. The theme for 2025 “Keeping the Circle Strong through the Sacred Relationship with Mother Earth” reflects the pride that our First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities take in their rich heritage, traditions, and cultures through being the caretakers of Mother Earth and water the giver of life. Our Elders and traditional teachings encourage us to acknowledge our resilience in “Keeping the Circle Strong through the Sacred Relationship with Mother Earth” for generations and we will continue to do so for generations to come. This theme expresses how our traditional way of life by honoring Mother Earth and water the givers of life encourage us to live a life that will inspire and produce healthy future generations. In ““Keeping the Circle Strong through the Sacred Relationship with Mother Earth” we honor the past, present and future of our communities and continue to walk in the footsteps of our grandfathers and grandmothers. Each class took part in foundational Indigenous learning this week, from learning on the land with sit spots and visual journals, authentic Indigenous stories and sharing circles to videos or art. Ask your child what they did and what they learned!
School Fees Due
Moving into the last week of school, Nellie is still carrying a deficit of $57,433 in Outstanding school fees.
For many families, costs such lunch supervision and field trips can really add up. We know that affordability is an issue for some families, and we are committed to giving every student a high-quality education regardless of their family’s ability to pay fees. If a family cannot afford fees, there are several ways to qualify for a waiver for fees. To apply for a central fee waiver, see details on eligibility and required documents, on the website. If the Central fee waiver is approved, families may also be eligible for a School fee waiver.
CBE preferred method of payments is online. If you are unable to make your payments in MyCBE, we will be able to accept debit/credit card payments at the school.
Outstanding school fees without Central waivers are escalated to Collections at the Revenue & Treasury department for processing.
