Nellie in the Know June 5, 2026

Happy Friday, Nellie Citizens!

Please join us at Nellie's Annual Year-End Family Picnic this Thursday, June 11 at 5:30pm. There will be yummy food trucks, a great mix of music and fun games! Celebrate the end of the school year, the warmer weather and build our school community spirit with other families. There will be  4 food trucks that will join us, 3 dinner trucks and one dessert truck.  Bring a blanket or some chairs and enjoy the evening as kids playing, and enjoying the outdoor spring weather.  This event will happen rain or shine.  If it is raining, we just move it indoors to the gym. We hope to see you there!

WEEK IN REVIEW

  • On Wednesday this week, we were absolutely thrilled to host our Volunteer Appreciation Assembly! It was a truly beautiful morning of gratitude, highlighted by our students singing and sitting in a circle—a practice taught to us by foundational Indigenous knowledge to represent unity and community. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who joined us; your constant support means the world to our school family.
  • On Thursday this week grade 6 students took their second Provincial Achievement Test, in Reading. In June, Provincial Achievement Tests are also scheduled for Math and Science. Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are administered annually to all Alberta students in Grades 6 and 9. These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location. PATs help:
    • determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
    • report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
    • assist schools, authorities and the province in monitoring and improving student learning.
  • Our Kindergarten Orientation on Friday morning  was a wonderful success! It was an absolute joy to welcome our newest students and their families who will be joining Nellie next fall.  Seeing those eager smiles and watching the children explore their future classrooms has us incredibly excited for the fantastic year waiting ahead.
