Nellie in the Know – March 1, 2024

Happy Friday Friends and Family of Nellie,

Another exceptional week at Nellie McClung School.  As we reflect back on February we take stalk of why Nellie is such an incredible and inclusive school.  We look back at Black History month and celebrate all of the accomplishments of black Canadians.  We raised money through “Jump Rope for Heart” and we recognize the importance of supporting folks challenged with disease.  We worked with our Indigenous Artist and reaffirm our need for Truth and Reconciliation.  We participated in the “Just Like You Program” and learned how people with physical and mental disabilities want to be included in the work we do and the games we play.  We wore a Pink Shirt to school and articulated the importance of being kind to all and accepting everyone including our friends in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, our Ukrainian friends, our Jewish friends and our friends who are homeless right now.  We reminded ourselves that we stand together, in solidarity, supporting the uniqueness and the differences in our school, our community and in our world.  By being kind, by avoiding judgement, by including others and by celebrating differences we learn that all voices matter and each person needs to feel loved, cared for, respected and honoured. Wow…we really do have an amazing community at Nellie.

March is a busy month so please follow our new calendar on our website.  Nordic Skiing, Lacrosse, Mental Health Webinar, downhill skiing, Student-led Conferences and Spring Break are all coming up this month.

A big thank you to our field trip and academic volunteers this week.  Your support of the school is invaluable.

Sincerely,

Darren Dyck, Principal
