Happy Friday Citizens of Nellie!
Learn and Share | School Planning:
We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why at next week's virtual School Council meeting on March 13, we’ll be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives. Thurs. March 13: 6:30pm Join the Virtual Meeting Here!
During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Learn About
• School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees
• How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes
• How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan
• School fees and why they are necessary
2. Participate
• Participate in our virtual school council meeting on March 13 at 6:30 to learn more about school planning. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback at this meeting.
• Share your perspectives through an online survey open from March 14-March 28. Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.
I am happy to meet with parents to answer any questions. Please reach out!
Kindest regards,
Aleta Terlecki

Week in Review
This Wednesday we celebrated Nellie's Winterfest. Sports days like this are important because they promote physical activity, foster a sense of teamwork and community, build confidence, encourage healthy competition, and provide a fun way to get exercise, all while creating positive social interactions among participants. Having activities and shared group experiences that enhance belonging is becoming more central to our work in school, developing great learning environments and supporting the well-being of our communities. Nellie's spring and winter sports days have enhanced this by making them inclusive, adding team elements to their events, and helping students feel part of the whole. Thank you to our School Council for providing snacks and treats to add to this fun event!

March is a month with many significant dates. The Month of Ramadan is just one. For many Muslims in Canada, Ramadan is more than a time of fasting and prayer—it is a period of deep reflection, generosity, and gratitude. This is a time of high importance for Canada’s Muslim population and extends through the diverse range of ethnicities, languages, and cultural backgrounds from regions such as South Asia, West Asia, Africa, and North America. This month is a time of giving, emphasizing compassion, empathy, and gratitude, as well as self-discipline. Fostering culturally aware practices in workplaces, schools, and leadership spaces helps create inclusive environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging and strengthens the broader school community. March is also Alberta Francophonie Month and Irish Heritage Month- Canada
