Happy Friday Citizens of Nellie!
The Week in Review
- On Tuesday this week, our Gaga Ball pits were delivered to the school and an amazing group of volunteers put in hours of team work to assemble them. Gaga ball is known as the "great playground equalizer" because it's a game that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their age, skill level, or athletic ability. It's a high-energy, fast-paced game that doesn't require specialized skills and is therefore accessible to a wide range of players. It doesn't require a strong throwing arm, fast legs or superb hand-eye coordination. Almost anybody can play. It puts everybody on an even playing field. Your jocks, your Lego kids, your readers -- everybody's even in gaga ball. You can see photos in our Nellie Weekly Pics link at the bottom of this email and also watch a fun video our students enjoying the game here: Nellie McClung Community
- Today, Friday was a Professional Learning Day across CBE. Today Nellie teachers worked toward our School Development Plan focusing on Literacy development, using CBE's Literacy Framework. As teachers, we strive to build the depth of knowledge we need as educators to support students who have not yet fully mastered the foundational literacy skills required to comprehend and articulate ideas in various subjects. Teachers worked in grade teams to build capacity in teaching literacy skills and to calibrate our assessment of student needs and student achievement using Alberta Education's Literacy Progressions. Check it out and see how your student is progressing!
