Happy Friday, Nellie Citizens!
WEEK IN REVIEW
- On Wednesday this week, the Grade 1 students proudly took their turn hosting our Seven Sacred Teachings Assembly, sharing the teaching of Love, represented by the eagle. Through songs, speaking parts, and thoughtful presentations, the students demonstrated how love means caring for ourselves, others, and the world around us. Their confidence, kindness, and enthusiasm shone brightly as they reminded our school community of the importance of showing compassion and respect each day. We are very proud of our Grade 1 students for their wonderful leadership and meaningful message.
- Thank you to all who came out for our School Council AGM on Wednesday night! Updates on next year enrollment projections, staffing and class configurations were shared and all Council positions were filled. School Council minutes are always posted on the Nellie McClung school website. Join us in September to stay informed, share your voice and be a part of the exciting initiatives that make Nellie a great place to learn!
- On Thursday all students gathered in the gym at the end of the day for a freezie party to celebrate the success of our Fill the Library Fundraiser. Nellie family and friends raised almost $30,000 for our library. We are excited to fill the shelves with new books and home-reading collections for every grade! What an incredible accomplishment, thank you for all the support. And thank you School Council for the fun freezie party for our students! Check out photos of the celebration on Nellie School Council Facebook: Nellie McClung Community
- This was Indigenous Awareness Week. Our Elementary students participated in a variety of meaningful activities to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and histories. Through traditional indigenous outdoor games in gym as well as stories and art projects in the classrooms, students explored the importance of respect, reconciliation, and learning from Indigenous perspectives. Classes also took time to recognize the traditional territories on which we live and learn, helping students build a stronger connection to the land and to the communities around them. It was a wonderful week of reflection, learning, and celebration across the Elementary division.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Nellie Casino Shift Sign-Up
Nellie McClung School has the opportunity to raise more than $90,000 at an upcoming casino, and we need your help to make it happen again. The opportunity to volunteer at a casino comes around every 2 years. It is by far our largest fundraising opportunity. Nellie McClung is scheduled for
Thursday October 8th and Friday, October 9th, 2026
Deerfoot Inn and Casino
1000 - 11500 35th Street SE
Over the two days, we need only 50 volunteers to cover different shifts. The effort is not only worth it, but critical to our ability to raise funds that go towards extra resources and experiences that enrich learning for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. For example, casino funds can help pay for field trips, science kits, instruments, books, art supplies, sports equipment, artist-in-residence programs, iPads, laptops, Smart boards and more. Simply put, the impact is amazing.
Volunteers don't need any experience!
And family members over the age of 18 can assist. We won't be dealing cards or managing games, but doing behind-the-scenes work with assistance from advisors who are there to help. We know parents are busy - if you are unable to help, perhaps an aunt, uncle or grandparent is available.
The shifts are daytime or evening, approximately 4-8 hours long. If you can help with just one shift, you alone raise approximately $2,500!
For more information, contact Breanne at breannecreelman@icloud.com
If you are able to help, please consider signing up for a shift. Your time and support are truly appreciated!
Thank you for helping us create amazing opportunities for our students.
