Nellie in the Know – May 31, 2024

Happy Friday Citizens of Nellie,

I would like to welcome our new Kindergarten families to the best school in Calgary and probably the whole world.  It was wonderful to meet you last night at our Kindergarten Orientation.  I would encourage you to get involved in your new school and actively support the amazing work of our School Council.

This week our Cross-country running team competed against 3 other schools at Louis Riel School.  Although our numbers were the smallest our results were by far the best.  Our students ran hard and did exceptionally well bringing home many of the ribbons.  Out of 12 races Nellie won 9!!!!  Very impressive!!!!  This coming Wednesday the race is here at Nellie.  We want to see a bigger turn out this week and I am challenging our Division 2 boys to step up.  Come and compete, be a part of the fun and show your school pride.  All students who have Nellie shirts should wear them on Wednesday.  Go Nellie Go!!!

We have displayed the lost and found in the hallway by the office and put pictures in the Weekly Pics.  Please come and have a look for missing items, as there is hundreds of dollars’ worth of clothing in the lost and found right now.

Thank you all for your support of this great school.  I am wowed each day by the number of volunteers who come out to the school and support our students.  From the Grade 6 Farewell committee to the PAC to the volunteers that go on field trips and work one on one with students, you make all the difference.  Thank you for your generosity of time and talents.

Have a fantastic weekend.  Let’s hope that June brings us a bit better weather.

Darren Dyck, Principal

School Fees

School Fees can we addressed through your MyCBE Account.  There are a number of outstanding accounts for field trips.  Please attend to these as soon as possible as unpaid fees will affect our 2024-2025 operational school budget.

June Is Pride Month

The CBE strives for all schools to be safe and caring places for all students and staff. We applaud the work that schools and service units do to embrace diversity and make our school board one that welcomes and celebrates students and staff from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs.

June 1st marks the beginning of Pride Month, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. During Pride Month, we recognize the valuable contributions individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities have made to history and society. We affirm the importance of ensuring 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff have learning and work environments that are welcoming, caring, respectful and safe.

June is National Indigenous History Month

This is a time to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit in Canada.

This year's theme, "inspiring our youth for change," aligns with Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary and the City of Calgary. It aims to empower the next generation of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples to reclaim and instill pride, cultural knowledge, and education in our communities. This can be achieved by being positive role models and continuing our collective journey through Truth and Reconciliation
