Happy Friday Citizens of Nellie,
This week we had a lovely Remembrance Assembly.
The peaceful and democratic society we enjoy was created by the efforts and sacrifices of generations of Canadians who have put their lives on the line in the cause of peace and freedom around the world. Remembering and learning about all that they have done helps us to better understand our nation's history and its future. There hasn’t been one day in over two hundred years without some kind of war on earth. Political, tribal, religious, territorial, civil, regional and global wars. Even most adults don’t know much about the over two hundred and sixty wars the world has endured just since 1900. In fact, few of us have any personal experience at all with war, even though there are horrific atrocities taking place all around the world, this very day. Because we’re generally so far removed from the effects and history of war, it may be difficult to put ourselves in a thankful frame of mind. But, it’s critical that we make a concerted effort to turn our hearts and minds towards a state of remembrance. To the fallen - We thank you. From the bottom of our hearts and the very core of our souls - Thank you! To the survivors, we thank you.
We hope you enjoy your time together during Fall Break Nov. 11-13!
We look forward to seeing students return to regular classes on Thursday, Nov.14. During the Fall Break and other holidays, (and recent Daylight Savings time changes!), sleep routines can get disrupted. A disruption in sleep can affect your child’s emotions, behavior, and academic success. Did you know that school-aged (5-11 years) children should be getting 10-12 hours each night? Read this article, and help your child get back on track to achieve success at school!

December Giving Tree
For the past 4 years Nellie families have supported Nellie Families through the Giving Tree. There are a number of families in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. As a community, in December, we provide gifts for struggling families, food and help that is needed. If you are in need please email me atadterlecki@cbe.ab.ca and we will “adopt” your family this December. If you are interested in helping please watch for emails from School Council on what is needed. A sign-up genius will be sent out once we know what our families need. Recipients will be anonymous.
