Nellie in the Know Oct. 13 | Donations, Fundraisers, Halloween Dance

Hello Citizens of Nellie,

I am so thankful to be a part of this amazing learning community. Everyday I see students, volunteers, staff and parents go out of their way to make life better for someone else.  This week we welcomed 14 new student teachers into our school.  Their high energy and eager demeanor have been a real gift to our students and staff. We are excited to have these practicum students here to support our literacy programs and work individually with students.

Halloween is a big deal at Nellie.  Students dress up, PAC hosts a dance, activities are planned in the school and a huge celebration of learning occurs. It is a fun and light-hearted way for everyone to “play make-believe”.  Parents are asked to monitor costumes and avoid having costumes that are too gory or too dangerous.  Props are also a concern.  Props such as swords, guns, pitch forks or any other type of weapon should stay at home.  Families who do not celebrate Halloween need to contact their child’s teacher and myself so we may ensure that the learning for your child is not associated with the Halloween celebrations and activities.

Thank you all so much for making Nellie the most amazing school every.  Your dedication to excellence, you willingness to support each other and your drive to be inclusive and caring are second to none.

Have a great weekend.
Darren Dyck, Principal

Snacks

Snacks are always needed at school.  If you are able to bring in granola bars, fish crackers, cheese strings or fresh fruit to help those students who do not bring snacks or lunches it would be greatly appreciated.

Clothing Donations

Gift of Clothing or Donation towards clothing:  Each year we have families in need and we have other families who step up and support them.  Currently we have a girl at our school who is 148 cm tall and wears a size 10-12.  She needs rubber boots, winter boots, snow pants, a winter coat, a toque and gloves.  If you can help please let me know. dkdyck@cbe.ab.ca
