Nellie in the Know Oct. 27 | Halloween, Snacks, Giving Tree, Families Helping Families, Book Sale, Candy Roundup, Fun Lunch

Hello Citizens of Nellie,

Halloween day is a traditional bit event at Nellie. It is a fun and creative way for everyone to “play make-believe”. Families who do not celebrate Halloween need to contact their child’s teacher and myself so we may ensure that the learning for your child is not associated with the Halloween celebrations and activities.  A parent donated a number of costumes to the school.  If your child is in need of a costume please let me know.

We would like to thank Ms. Julia Acott for her outstanding work.  This coming week will be her last week at Nellie as Ms. Milligan will be returning from her knee replacement leave.  We want to welcome Ms. Milligan back with open arms (and two good knees… J) and wish Ms. Acott the very best as she continues on in her career.

Thank you all for making Nellie such a great place to learn and grow.

Have a great weekend.
Darren Dyck, Principal

Snacks

Snacks are always needed at school.  If you are able to bring in granola bars, fish crackers, cheese strings or fresh fruit to help those students who do not bring snacks or lunches it would be greatly appreciated.

Giving Tree

As a community, in December, we provide gifts, food and help that is needed.  If you and your family are in need please email me at dkdyck@cbe.ab.ca and we will “adopt” your family this December.  If you are interested in helping please watch for emails from School Council on what is needed.  A sign-up genius will be sent out once we know what our families need.  Recipients will be anonymous.

If your family is in need please complete this document, email it to me, bring it into the school or come into the school and complete one here.  Our PAC is ready to mobilize and wants to get an early jump on gift purchasing. See document under Resources.

Families Helping Families

A couple of weeks ago we asked for some support for a family and you stepped right up.  Nellie’s PAC is looking at a practical way of families sharing with families.  We are not quite there yet but what we do have is some gently used items that are free for the taking if your family needs some help right now.  Please email me at dkdyck@cbe.ab.ca if your family could use these items.

What we have:

  • Kids pull on style waterproof winter boots, rated for -30C:
Size 11 and 12 in "boy colors"
Size 13 and 1 in "girl colors"
  • MEC 1 pc snowsuit, yellow, size 5 (probably a good fit for someone in kindergarten or a smaller grade 1 student)
  • Waterproof mitts (probably appropriate size for kindergarten or small grade 1)
  • Fleece balaclava
  • Girl's 2 pc snowsuit, size 7 (this one is very well loved; parka is in great condition, the knees of the snowpants have seen better days)
